Biography

Growing up in Broward County, Marina attended Kenyon College in Ohio after receiving Kenyon’s Trustee Opportunity Scholarship. While there, Marina studied both English and Psychology, publishing her research twice. Marina graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English and went on to study at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. As a law student, Marina worked as a research assistant, studying trauma-informed, gender-specific treatment for at-risk girls and the efficacy of the PACE Center. Her findings were published in the Northwestern Journal of Law and Social Policy.

Upon graduating, Marina served as an Assistant Public Defender for six years, during which, she represented thousands of clients on felony and misdemeanor charges and sat first or second chair on dozens of trials. Marina next worked as a Senior Staff Attorney for the 3rd Judicial Circuit, where she advised the circuit court judges in seven counties and wrote complex judicial orders. Currently, Marina works as an Attorney for UF’s Student Legal Services. Her cases primarily concern landlord/tenant law, name changes, expungements, criminal defense, property damage, contract review, traffic citations, and insurance matters. Marina also drafts various legal documents, such as powers of attorney, designations of healthcare surrogate, and living wills.
