Domestic Partner Gator1 IDs

Verification of eligibility for a UF student’s domestic partner to obtain a Gator1 ID card is performed by Student Legal Services. Once an appointment is confirmed, both the student and the partner must be present and provide the proper documentation.

This service is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.; however, the student must first complete a Client Intake Form (see below).

STEP ONE:

The STUDENT must fill out our Client Intake Form. The domestic partner may NOT submit this form on the student’s behalf. We cannot process the request until the student has submitted this form.

STEP TWO:

At your appointment, present the following required documentation:

  • Student Gator 1 ID
  • State-issued picture ID (student and domestic partner)
  • Signed and notarized Affidavit of Domestic Partnership (Free notary services available on-site.)

At least ONE of the following that demonstrates shared residency:

  • Joint mortgage or lease
  • Joint renter’s or homeowner’s policy
  • Driver’s licenses showing the same address for both parties

AND

At least TWO of the following that demonstrate joint financial obligations:

  • Joint mortgage of real property
  • A rental agreement showing both parties
  • Driver’s licenses showing the same address for both parties
  • IRS tax returns showing the same address for both parties
  • Common ownership of an automobile
  • Joint bank accounts
  • A will, retirement plan, or life insurance policy designating the other as primary beneficiary
  • Durable property or healthcare power of attorney granted by either party to the other

STEP THREE:

If the domestic partner has been assigned a Social Security number, they must provide it to the attorney processing the request.

STEPS FOR REMOTE ASSISTANCE:

In order to qualify for remote assistance, the student and/or domestic partner must provide proof that they are unable to come into the office to complete the above steps – call our office at 352-392-5297 for more information. If this applies, please follow these steps:

  1. The STUDENT must fill out our Client Intake Form. The partner may NOT submit this form on the student’s behalf. We cannot process the request until the student has submitted this form.
  2. Scan and email (sls@ufsa.ufl.edu) or physically mail (UF Student Legal Services, P.O. Box 118505, Gainesville, FL 32611-8505) copies of all required documentation listed above, PLUS a passport-sized photo of the partner. (If emailed, the photo must be in JPEG/JPG format).
  3. Either the student or partner should call our office at 352-392-5297 to provide the partner’s Social Security number over the phone to one of our attorneys.
  4. One of our attorneys will process the request and forward it to Gator1 Central – ID Card Services to produce the physical card.
